Sunrise @ Ulu Sembawang
Another weekend morning, another short trip.
This time with DS along with us as guide. DS has been trekking and exploring around Singapore for years in his spare time. This shows as he appeared in his 'exploration mode' gear! We were a bit under prepared with out tees, shorts and slippers .... just a short trek mah...
Set out at 6am from the east and picked DS up at Toa Payoh before heading towards the entry point at Lor Lada Hitam (Black Pepper Lane .. ex black pepper plantation?) into a vast land parcel used heavily (lesser these days) for military training.
The journey took about 35 mins as we parked at the end of the road, deep in the land parcel.
We walked across to the Sembawang PCN and continued about 300-400m to an entry point that leads to a grassy clearing where many local YouTubers have posted their beautiful sunrise shots.
A good crowd was gathering as we waited. Some young couple with a dog, a lone teenage lady with phone prepared, some PCN cyclists and notably a some families with young kids. Hope they brought their insect repellents as Josh and me were bugged, literally .. had it not been for the repellent aerosol which DS brought, we would have been peppered with bites.
The expected sight did not come as the horizon was mostly blocked by clouds. Still, we could imagine the area provided a nice platform for a good sunrise. Apparently, on some days, there will be light mist covering the area (maybe during rainy season only)...that would have been awesome. Another day lah! Perhaps with the cycling kakis when doing the Mandai loop.
We walked a short loop back to the road leading back to our ride. Did breakfast at Casuarina Curry (Upper Thomson) and back by 830am. Another week, another trip. Let's keep this up.
