Discovery @ Clementi Woods

Saturday morning. Left home around 630am, picked up our exploration guru DS and parked at SIM carpark. The entrance to Clementi Woods starts from a bus stop just across the road. The 3 of us entered the area just as the sun was rising @ 7.10-ish. IMO perfect timing.



Crossed the overhead bridge to the bus stop. Entrance to the 'forest'. We could already breathe the fresh air infused with that greenery nearby.


There is a clear path, so no worries about getting lost here!


Lotus thrives.




A bit of traffic jam as there is a small stream crossing that requires one to drop down about 4-5 feet. After a couple of minutes of waiting we decided to cut queue and went down via another route. Took our shoes off and lowered ourselves into the stream (only knee high at most). It was pretty muddy around there due to rain from previous days. We got through and went on while the queue was still slowly clearing.

Cut back into the trail on the opposite side of the stream and a popular Instagram-worthy 'read beams' area. Not sure if its worth the trouble as it looks to be potentially dangerous.


Right up-front, we were immediately greeted with green and blues. Again, no issues here as there is a clear trail.


The old railway tracks that goes to Jurong. Malaysians forgot to clear this or perhaps it did not belong to them! Its a detour from the main rail to Tanjung Pagar, possibly to get good to and from the ports of yesteryears.


Can't follow the tracks as it got really muddy. Walked across to higher ground via the fallen tree trunk. Be careful of those thorny plants!

This goes under the main road. We crossed under using this path and climbed up on the other side, heading back to SIM car park. A brief clean-up and we were off!


Total walk ~2.5km only took about 45 mins - 1 hr. No need to rush!
Carry a small day pack with water, insect repellent and a small towel. Wear shoes please. I had my trail running minimalist shoes and they were great. It's more to navigate the muddy trail at some parts. Of course some treats or snacks if you like too! There are toilets at SIM if one needs to wash up, just ask the guard at the carpark.

Woke up a bit late and arrived at Rail Mall carpark around 715am. The plan was to walk / jog from here until Kranji side via the rail corridor…ending at the Rainbow bridge. From there we planned to take a bus back to rail mall (about 25mm ride) and end our excursion with breakfast. I tried this route 2 days ago but that was disrupted by heavy downpour almost midway. Sunny clear day today! The entrance to the rail path at this time could only be accessed north of Hillview mrt. The path looks like is undergoing some sort of upgrade with new topsoil and grass. Likely once this settled in coming months it will be a proper “path”. This continued until junction 10 mall; instead of going into cck park connector, we accessed the rail path via the heavy vehicle carpark right after the mall. Hot Spring @ Sembawang

Yet another quick decisive plan to check out this place (Sembawang Hot Springs). It is well known, quite possibly even very well visited.  Nestled within the grounds which were supposedly part of the armed forces area, the government sort of 'carved' a mini path and park to allow access to the public to this gem of an area. Many years ago (maybe 10?) there was no park but just a path to some water taps to allow the public to access the hot water. Back then people bring their own pails or rather there were pails for one to fill up, find a corner to sit and douse your weary feet into it.  Today, its a well made, but small wading pool like area with some seating around around it. To be honest, give the area there, they could have made this pool a lot larger and allow a lot more people to sit around and enjoy the hot spring water. Kitchen Volunteer @ Willing Hearts (Ubi)

Set out with Josh early in the morning to Willing Hearts @ Jalan Ubi. We volunteered for the first slot between 5am to 6.30am. Couldn't take any pictures here as we were so busy as soon as we arrived. Being first time kitchen volunteers, was a bit concerned that we sort of screw up the operations and expectations but no, the people are super cool, patient and friendly. As it was the early shift, not many people were around except for the cooks (probably regulars here). 4.50am - Virgin Volunteers Check in after parking with trace together app and then use the camera app to scan the volunteer check in and out QR. You will need to register with Willing Hearts prior or on the spot via the page. Basically when you scan this QR, it will log the check in time. 5.00am - Packing Boxes Prep First thing we did was to don an apron and hairnet (provided) at the packing area.
