Morning Swamp Walk @ Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Woke up 5.30am to roaring thunder and rain; no cycling today. I sat down on the kitchen floor, procrastinating on things I could do. 6.45am - lets go the Wetland Reserve! Tried to get my son to go as well but he looked sleepy so solo it shall be!

Since 2010 when I started cycling, I used to passed the road that points to "Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserves" and alway a passing thought that faded as fast as I passed it while cycling across the Kranji area towards Neo Tiew / Lim Chu Kang. This area is really very special place akin to days of past, pre-developed Singapore. As I reached, I could see that will be untrue soon with massive so-called consolidated factory, business buildings sprouting in the area like fungi on a wet morning.

There are 2 entrances. I opted to park at the Neo Tiew Crescent entrance (turn of the main road) one which I think is the newer section of the park. The place is well equipped with park amenities and even has a room with cold drinks / hot food vending machines and tables to enjoy them on (it was tempting looking at the $5 Seafood Horfun....wonder how that would taste...).

Anyway this part of the park is a loop that goes around quite a huge marshland with many vista points for visitors (not that it does any good....I guess for the birdwatchers?).

View from the bridge connecting the visitor center area to the swamp loop. This loop is about 3km long, partially paved. No worries about muddy roads here.

The loop encircle the massive marsh / swamp area. Wildlife is said to be abundant here, especially migratory birds. I saw some.....perhaps its too early? or just the fact that it just rained?.

The paths are really awesome with moss covered pathways at some sections.

The raking roots of the swamp 'Bakau' tree.

The intriguing nest shaped structure...this is a recurring view around the park and IMO looks gorgeous! I think area is called Eagle Point.

So fresh and peaceful here its amazing. Not too many people around at this hour.

Some parts of the paths are still being upgraded so the only way to access the Coastal Walk is by re-parking myself at the main road entrance (Neo Tiew Road)

Great view from the Coastal Walk. All in all ~7km of trails (This should be 8-9km once the upgrading has been completed). I do look forward to come here again some family or friends. So sad to enjoy this alone!

There's supposed to be crocodiles too but I didn't see any. However, monitor lizards are plenty ... saw this one lazing in water, another was crossing the path and one was walking in shallow water.
